Lord Shree Vishnu (Narayana) is both Creator and Destroyer...

CLASSIC EXPLANATION OF MANTRAS 12-14 FROM "ISHAVASYA-UPANISHAD" BY OM VISHNUPAD SHREE MADHVACHARYA. THE EXCERPT IS FROM #"ISHAVASYA TALAVAKARA KATHAKA UPANISHADS ACCORDING TO SRI MADHVACHARYA'S BHASHYA"#:

"ISHAVASYA-UPANISHAD", MANTRA 12:
Translation: "Those who
meditate upon Bhagavan Shree Vishnu considering that He is not the Creator, will enter into deep darkness. But those who consider that He is Creator only (not Destroyer etc.,) will enter into deeper darkness".

Explanation 1: In the previous Mantra it was stated that wrong knowledge will lead to deep darkness. In this Mantra and the next 2 Mantras an instance of wrong knowledge and its consequences are given to illustrate the points made in the earlier 3 Mantras.

R.K. = Shree RaghavendraTirtha's "Khandartha"

Explanation 2: One who thinks that Bhagavan Shree Vishnu is not the Creator is not properly instructed in Shastras.
But one who knows that Lord Shree Vishnu is the Creator through the scriptures etc., should know that Bhagavan Shree Vishnu is also the Destroyer.
His not realising this is a greater lapse.

"ISHAVASYA-UPANISHAD", MANTRA 13:
Translation: "They (the wise) say that the result of the knowledge of Vishnu's Creatorship is distinct and the result of the knowledge of Vishnu's Destroyership etc., is distinct. Thus we have heard from the wise who taught us that (i.e., the means to liberation)".

Explanation: In the previous Mantra it was stated that non-realisation or the Vishnu's Destroyership etc., will lead to deep darkness.

Here it is said that the realisation of Bhagavan Shree Vishnu's Creatorship and Destroyership lead to 2 distinct aspects of the result in liberation. These will be explained in the next Mantra.

"ISHAVASYA-UPANISHAD", MANTRA 14:
Translation: "He who knows both the Creatorship and Destroyership of Lord Shree Vishnu (which knowledge leads to 2 distinct aspects of the result in liberation) will cross over the bondage (of body etc.,) by the knowledge of Destroyership and attain the bliss by the knowledge of Creatorship. (Here Creatorship stands for all other qualities also)".

Explanation 1: In the above 3 Mantras an instance of wrong knowledge i.e., absence of the knowledge of Creatorship of Lord Shree Vishnu and the incompleteness of the right knowledge viz., knowledge of Creatorship only of God are pointed out. Their consequences are also pointed out.

Explanation 2: The knowledge of Bhagavan Shree Vishnu's Creatorship should not be limited to that only. It has to cover all qualities.

It is the knowledge that Bhagavan Shree Vishnu possesses the infinite number of qualities that leads to the bliss in liberation (Mukti-Ananda).

The knowledge of Lord Shree Vishnu's Destroyership removes the bondage of body etc., and the sorrow.
